I am dedicating this page to a childhood memory that I and many others grew up
with in Rockingham and Richmond County - Slim Mims, also known as Uncle
Ugly. I have different emails from others concerning Slim and they are contained
in the
Guests Memories section of this website. But I wanted to create a special
page for Slim - with photos, memorabilia, and with links to videos of his many
shows back in the 50s.

Don Henderson of
DonHenderson.com has recently took the time and money to
convert a lot of the old tv shows that Slim made and put them on YouTube. Don
has given me permission to link to his videos from this website.  So, I hope you
enjoy the humor of Slim and his gang and the music from years ago - and I thank
Don for getting these converted to the internet for all to enjoy. I know I have and
continue to enjoy them and the memories they bring back when I listen and watch.

I felt this page fit right in with my website about all our memories of growing up in
the 50s & 60s. My hopes are that you feel the same and will let Don know if you
enjoy his videos of Slim Mims.

So, this page will be a little bit of everything. If you have something you would like
to add, just email me and I will try to get it on. Don's videos will be added a few at
a time.

I just decided to look online and see if I
could find anything about Slim Mims.  I
didn't know what ever became of him.  I
have searched before, but never found
anything until now.

I remember him from Carolina in the
Morning, channel 6, Wilmington, North
Carolina.  He came to my hometown of
Bladenboro, NC to appear in the annual
Christmas Parade.  He walked into my
parents' business after the parade and
spoke to me.  I was just a young boy,
and it was a special treat to me to meet a
television personality.  My mother told
him I played guitar a little, and he
inquired as to whether or not I would be
interested in appearing on his television
program.  That was a long time ago.  I
don't recall all of the details of how it all
came together, but I appeared on his
show on January 1st, 1979, if I
remember the date and year correctly.

I've often thought about him through
the years, and wondered what ever
happened to him.  I'm sorry to learn he
has passed away.

He was one of the funniest and nicest
people I've ever met.  I count it a
privilege to have met him and to have
appeared on his program.
