| Joel.... Roland Hale 98 yrs. passed away Wednesday. You may already know he was a long time Rockingham native and good friend of Sheriff Goodman. He was dancing up till a few weeks ago. I will send more info as I have it. There will be a human interest story on him later. Twister's Shag Club has lost an Angel, and Heaven has a new one. We regret to announce that 98 year old Fun Bunch Member Roland Hale passed away Wednesday evening about 7pm. If you have additional questions, feel free to email Mike Rink by clicking HERE. William Roland Hale Mr. Hale, 98, died February 18, 2004 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. He was born August 12, 1905 in Richmond County, NC, and was the son of the late Susan Smith Hale and William Matthew Hale. Mr. Hale married Rose Page on January 3, 1926 in Bennettsville, SC. He was associated with General Motors, United Motor Service. After retiring, he worked with American Parts System Warehouse for 15 years, retiring at age 83. He was a member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, until moving to Terrell, NC in October 1989, and became a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church. He was an avid dancer until last year, and was a member of both Twisters and Lake Norman Shag Clubs. He was inducted as an Honorary Member of the Hall of Fame of Shaggers on October 16, 1999. Survivors include his sons, William Page Hale and his wife, Margaret K. Hale, of Terrell, NC, Lawrence Roland Hale of Statesville, NC; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren; and his special friend, Pat Metcalf. Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, on April 2, 1990, and by a daughter, Rose Antha Stephens. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 21, at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel, with the Reverend Dr. J. Edward Maddox officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
