| This picture was taken in 1955 in our church at Pee Dee. On the front row is LD Bailey, Az Jenkins, Mrs Stewart and that's Dad standing behind LD and Mr Jenkins. The rest of the people I cannot recognize. ... June 24, 2005 - The following information was added about the above photo and was sent to me by friend Paul Warnock: The lady to Mr. L.D. Bailey's right is Mrs. Maude Swails ("Grandma Swails"). Her son Mr. Claude C. Swails was Sunday School Superintendent until about 1953 or 1954 when the entire Swails family went to a new PH church either in Cordova or out on US 1 South. He ran the Swail's Shoe Shop in Hamlet; this business was later taken over by his son Mr. Horace Swails. Several years ago (2002 ?), we stopped by to see Horace in Hamlet. He said he was planning to retire soon; so the business may no longer exist as business was poor and none of his family wanted to continue it. |
