| As I reflect back on my life as a kid, I can not think of any other time in my childhood when I felt as secure and as loved as I did during the Christmas season. My brothers and I were nice to our friends, Mama, Daddy, strangers and even to each other. We did our chores without being prompted. We went as far as to do tasks before they ever hit a chore list. Last but not least, we wore yes ma'am, no ma'am, yes sir, no sir, please, and thank you out; it mattered not who had a list nor how many times they checked it, the McDonald boys were not going to grade out any way but NICE! December 25th was also the most fun day of the year. I tried to name the most unforgettable Christmas ever at the McDonald house; realistically, I could not pick a clear cut winner. Instead, I have narrowed my list down to the Final Four. I plan to present them in a series of five postings ( #1 an introduction and each of the four most memorable Christmases in its own posting). I encourage and challenge each of you to share your personal stories now and in the past of the most thrilling season of a child's life. I hope you experience as much enjoyment reading about Christmas with the McDonald brothers as I did reminiscing and writing about Christmases past. Once again, please take time to write and share your memories with all your old friends and readers of Joel's website in cyberspace just what a " Wonderful Life" Christmas was "growing up in Rockingham, North Carolina - a small textile town in the South in the ' 50s & ' 60s." |
