| 1965 Chevelle Malibu Richard Martin |

| Joel, This is the best web site. It has really brought back great memories. When I saw you at the reunion I mentioned to you that I was going to send you a picture of my 65 Chevelle. I was like you, I loved my car but I got rid of mine also. When I got the car in sixty five, it was a plain Malibu with a 283 cu. in. engine. I changed the seats from bench to bucket seats in sixty six. In sixty seven Claude Dennis - I'm sure you remember him - had a garage on number one north. We went down to Patrick South Carolina and bought a motor out of a wrecked Corvette. Claude rebuilt, bored and camed this engine for me. We then put three two barrel carbs on it. Claude never tuned cars back then with a machine. He did it by sound and performance on the road. We took the Chevelle from the shop to number one highway. Claude revved her up and popped the clutch, but nothing happened. It did not move. We pulled it back to the shop. When we pulled the dust cover off the clutch fell in the floor in pieces. We had not changed the clutch - it was still the stock clutch. Claude sent me to Fayetteville to Ace Speed Shop to pick up a Borg Warner Racing clutch. I will tell you this - it took two men and a boy to push it in. I also had Buck Covington to mount a hood scoop that I bought. It was the same type as on a 427 Corvette and I painted it. Like I said, I got stupid one day and let it go and bought a sixty nine SS396 Chevelle. I was sick the very first week. The 396 that I had wasn't like your 396 - mine was weak. My sixty five was a great deal faster than the sixty nine. I don't know if you remember the car or not. I'm going to try and send you a picture. It was great seeing you the other night and keep up the good work on the web site. Richard Martin |
