| 1955 - JC Mulkey at Football Camp A great photo of JC Mulkey at Football Camp around 1955. The location is not known. (I remember Mr Mulkey well. He was our Principal at LJ Bell, and then after the 6th grade, we went to Rham High School. I remember him telling us in assembly that he had been with us so long at LJ Bell that he was moving to the High School as Principal the same time we were moving up. Everybody was happy about that????) The location has been identified, 082809, with the following info: Joel, I was just surfing through the Rockingham Remembered website and saw the picture of Mr. Mulkey in 1955 at football camp. I am almost sure that this is at the State Park at Cheraw Beach in South Carolina. The reason I remember it is the picture of the cabin behind Mr. Mulkey. My Mom, Theo Smith, was band director during that era and she had also taken the band to band camp there, too. As you can tell by the picture of the cabin, it was far from being first class accomodations, but I don't think they were intended to be. What I do remember is that there was a beach, it was August, it was hot, there was sand everywhere, and you couldn't hardly walk off the paths for the sandspurs. Good memories, though. Ken Smith |
