| from Howard C. Dozier to rrjoel@gmail.com date Oct 3, 2007 subject What a great site Hi Joel, I was born in Rockingham and attended Rockingham High from time to time through the 60’s. I would have been in the graduating class of 1964 but I moved the previous year as my family was somewhat nomadic through my High School Years. I knew your brother Gary well through my cousins Jimmy Dunn, Terry Adcock and Wayne Adcock. I was sorry to hear that he had passed. I spent many a summer at my grandmother’s home on Maness Avenue and many a day at my cousin’s mill homes in Pee Dee. Shot pool at John’s, The Corner and others. I frequented the old skating rink, The Hub and of course Seagos where my mother worked as a waitress. Our Richmond County roots go way back with the Dunn, Maness and Crisco families and I still consider Rockingham my home town even though I was mostly a part time resident. I was friends with Bobby McCrary, Al Benoist, Mike Covington, Bobby Melton, “Frog” Sanford, and others whose names have somehow left me. When I returned to the States in 1968 from Viet Nam I spent a short while in Rockingham until Ronnie Dean and I went to Charlotte and became Charlotte Police Officers where we were joined by Dale Furr and Bo Frye. These guys are still among my most cherished friends. I retired from there in 1993 and now own my own company. I came across your site by accident when I was researching Richmond County history and I browse it just about every day. Memories of those days have sustained me through some of my roughest times. Keep up the good work and I will be checking in frequently to see if any of my old friends are posting. Please check out my company’s web site for a little more biographical info. Best regards, |
