My name is Bryon R. Campbell and I am from Rockingham, NC. I took
the photos I am e-mailing you. I took the pictures when I went to see
my Uncle in Cairo Egypt a few months ago. One is of The Nile, which I
call "The Nightly Nile" because I took it as the sun was going down. One
photo is of my uncle, who is also from Rockingham.(Stancil Campbell RHS
'65) When I told my uncle I was sending you the photos he sent me an e-
mail telling about his history. The e-mail he sent is below. Please feel
free to use anything I am sending you on your web page.
Bryon
Stancil Campbell is Professor and Chairman of the Department of
Performing and Visual Arts at the American University in Cairo. He has
taught theatre and sculpture at American University since 2000.
Previously he taught in the USA at the University of North Carolina at
Greensboro and Berea College, in Canada at the University of Alberta
and Trinity Western University, and in Ghana at the University of Ghanaâ
€™s School of Performing Arts.
For the past 26 years, he has also served each summer as Technical
Director for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Trained in art and in
theatre, his professional work has primarily been in stage design. Stancil
is a member of the Associated Designers of Canada and he has designed
major productions in the United States, Canada, Scotland, Ghana, and
Egypt.
Among his theatre awards are Toronto’s Dora Award and Edmontonâ
€™s Sterling Award. As a volunteer, he has distributed food in Somali
refugee camps, rebuilt flood-damaged houses in Texas, and constructed
homes with Habitat for Humanity in Guatemala and in Egypt.
Most recently, Stancil has completed a graduate diploma in Refugee
Studies and has been teaching a drama class for refugees in Cairo.
