The only thing I haven't found mentioned is the Ed Tull pool downtown Rockingham and the "Tin Can" which was built on the old putt putt site. I worked at the pool for 4 or 5 summers in the concession stand and then as a life guard. At the time it was the only pool in Rockingham. Run by the strict hand of Martha Holt. The Tin Can was built in the late 60 's , nothing more than a big tin building with pool tables , ping pong tables and a stage. We had a small local band,Willie T and the Soul Breeze. Hope I don't forget any members of the band: Mark Hewitt , Rick Deese , Mike Rohleder ,Willie Thomas , Mike McQuarter , Marcus Cromer , and Chuck Tincher. We played for a couple years after each home football game on Friday nights. Regretfully , the building burned down and was never replaced. This was before the Hanger's time and was one of the most popular places for teens hang out on a Friday night. Lots of good memories from the pool and the Tin Can. Thanks , Chuck Tincher |

I purchased it from her son , Neil who told us the Daily Journal was partially produced out of this house by his mom and dad, prior to moving to the paper's present location. I also own a large piece of marble that was used to to lay out the lettering for the pages. Since it was out dated and not being used anymore , Mrs Easterling was using it for a stepping stone from the driveway to the patio. I've since cleaned it and partially resurfaced it . Saving it for a much better purpose than walking on. Thanks Again, Chuck Tincher |

If you look at this link, http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/PatCovingtonDetails.html, you'll see mention and photos of Ed Tull pool. You probably haven't had time to view all the pages yet. I remember the Tin Can a little. But in the late 60's I was out of school and pursuring other interests. I remember many times climbing up and down the hill from the library to the pool. Plus the name Mrs Holt was well known. I grew up with Mark Hewitt - he lived down the street from me and we played many ball games in his front yard. You mention the band you were in - Willy T and The Soul Breeze - I don't remember that band name but it seems Mark used to play for a band but for some reason I thought it was Eastern Seaboard. Maybe I'm wrong. The Hanger rings a bell too. My wife and I used to go there quite a lot on Saturday nights. Thanks Joel |

Yes Mark played for Eastern Seaboard, that was after this band split up, most of the members started Eastern Seaboard but I went with the Chantels over in Hamlet. I remember the football games in Marks front yard. He used to come to my house for dinner then we would go to his house for dinner. Right after my first marriage, we rented a trailer from his uncle for a short while behind Snead construction. He would still come eat dinner with me and my wife but I had to cook. Kind of took the fun out of raiding each others dinner table at the other house. Mark, Rick Deese and I played trumpet in band, usually if you found one of us ,you found all three of us. Band trips , now there's more memories, for a later date & later time. Take Care, Chuck |
