I precede you growing up in Rockingham. I graduated from RHS in 1957. I would like to challenge ANY Rockingham native that might visit this site to equal my hometown connection. I was born in Rockingham in the house my parents had just completed in Richmond Park in September 1939. The Wadesboro Hospital was just a little too far away to get to back then. (My sister was born in Wadesboro 5 years later – don’t’ know about the Hamlet Hospital at that time, but there was no hospital in R’ham.) My Dad passed away in 1964 but my Mom lived in the house that they built until her passing in 2001. Not only that, she maintained most of the same quality furnishings that she originally furnished the home with way back when. She had upgraded to a newer, more modern bedroom suite, BUT still had the original bedroom suite in the second bedroom. That was the bed in which I was born. How many other Rockingham natives can not only return “home” to the house in which they were born, but also sleep in the BED in which they were born? |
