| This is a picture of my Dad (J.W. Hayes) Flagman and Z.V.(Vance Mcgirt , white cap), Conductor and father of Bernell McGirt of Hamlet, inside an old SAL caboose in the 1940's preparing to make a road trip out of Hamlet Terminal. Mr McGirt was a delegate to the Democratic National convention when Adelaide Stephenson was running for President. My Dad, (J.W. Hayes) was elected to the N.C. House of Representative in 1955 and later was elected General Chairman for the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Both men were active in politics. contributed by Wilson Hayes |
