Subject: Rockingham, NC
Hi,

Allow me to introduce myself.  I am Robert King and I am a born
and raised Rockingham native.  I was searching the internet today,
Sunday, April 25, 2004, for pictures of my Junior High School to
show my roommate.  Well as if you couldn?t guess what that junior
high school was.  Yes! Rockingham Jr. High.  What a fine school it
is.  I clicked on the picture link of Rockingham jr. High on
yahoo.com, and it led me to your site.  Well, I must say that I did
begin to indulge in its offerings of Rockingham History and what
not.  It was a really good look into a time, a generation, and I am
sure some really fond memories for many people.  Well, I wasn?t
born during that time. I am only 24 years old and soon to be 25 in
May, but within your site I scrolled across many venues that I
could relate to in some fashion or another.

It was rather exciting even though I may not know the people in the
pictures, but I do know who they are for the most part.  The first
link that caught my eye was the ?My Home on Ellerbe Rd.? link.  I
was like wow because I have walked and ridden my bicycle many,
many days on that road back and forth to my childhood friend?s
house.  I lived in Pee Dee, and I would frequent Ellerbe Rd. and
Honey town daily because that is where all my friends lived at the
time. As a matter of fact, I was in Rockingham on Friday.

Well to get on with this, I saw a picture titled ?Old Pee Dee
Pentecostal Church?.  Also, there was one titled ?Mr. Shepard?s
Sunday School Class?.  I have met Mr. Shepard on occasion.  He
was and still is a family friend of my mother?s family.  Well it
seems that everyone knows Mr. Shepard.  I am going to guess that
Pee Dee Pentecostal is what is now New Covenant Christian
Fellowship, formerly Calvary Evangelistic Center.  That was the
church I went to when I was a child.  My dad, mom, and my mom?s
family still attend there.

I am quite sure that you would probably know them as your last
name is Bailey.  My mom?s maiden name is Coble and her
mother's name is Nealie Coble who is widowed by Sam Coble.  I am
going to assume that you are related to Margie Bailey.  Perhaps
you are one of her children.  If so, she is a very sweet lady.  My
mom takes her to Church some times I believe and she lives on
Ellerbe Rd. So I got to guess you and Margie are related.  Anyway
it has been a very coincidental day with the neat stuff on your site;
furthermore, I live in Cary, NC, too.  I saw that address indicated
that you live here also.

Oh I just read your ?Remember these? insert.  It was pretty funny
and can relate to some of it.  I can especially relate to the burning
of the trash.  When I was like 2 years old, I have been told this
story so many times, my foot caught fire at my aunt Lucille?s house
while she was burning trash out back in the barrel.  I had on nylon
socks by the way and the sock caught fire and burnt my ankle I
guess.  Sorry to have strayed there, but I must wrap this up.  It was
rather nice sharing my story with you, and keep the excellent work
with your page, Mr. Bailey.

Thank you,

Robert King
