subject:Tony Smith here ESB Bassist

Hi,
My name is Tony Smith from Greer,S.C.  I got a call from East Coast
Entertainment in 1977 to go audition with ESB. After the audition,
Vernon and Richard asked if I thought I could learn all their material in
a week. We rehearsed 2 or 3 hours when we got back to Rockingham
from The Whipping Post in Augusta, then went out on tour the next day.
Good gigs were bountiful for ESB in those days as were the pretty girls.
We played Crackers anytime we were home, what a venue. About a year
later we did an outdoor concert at The University of Georgia, We were
to have our first week vacation after that gig. Unfortunately the band
was in debt and so behind they couldn't pay me for the last week's
work. I packed my rig and went back to Greer with the $20.00 they
gave me for gas to get home :-(. Needless to say I didn't return. They
were a great band and some of my fondest memories came from that
stint with ESB. Here is a picture from 1978 doing an outdoor concert in
Columbia at USC.
